Well, I never got an announcement for a Grouply but I wouldn't join
anyway. Passwords are secret. They are meant to be secret for a
reason. IT groups always suggest you make your password hard to
crack...again for a reason..and never give it out to anybody for good
reason. They who are culling passwords are generally up to no good.
Consider this aspect of "no good" which may be the case in the
Grouply thing...or they may be legitimate, but I wouldn't chance it.
When they have your Yahoo Username and Password they generally have
access to your Yahoo ACCOUNT. So you think BIG DEAL. I don't have
anything populated on my yahoo account. Maybe. Maybe not. If you
shop online you MAY have yahoo stores activity on your account with
stores you weren't even aware of as yahoo stores that you shopped
with using OTHER THAN your yahoo email id! I know I do. There's a
link under shopping in my Yahoo account for every order I have placed
on line that was bought at a Yahoo store...whether I knew they were a
Yahoo Stores merchant or not. Now. If my cc information were stored
at the stores(it's not and ideally yours is not either, but go along
with me here) it would be an easy thing for them to hit that store,
make a purchase or many purchases on YOUR cc and change the shipping
address to their address.
There may be NO evil intent behind the grouply thing...they may be
totally legit...but I wouldn't want to be the one to find they
weren't and with my information. I worked in IT for a long time. If
I am overly suspicious it's because I know what is possible. It's an
ugly world out here on the web sometimes. Don't believe everything
everybody tells you when they tell you something on the web...you can
be anybody you want to be, doing anything you want to do at the
stroke of the key...and if you have larceny in mind it is easy to
prey on the innocent. Keep your passwords secret. If you have
already given it out, CLOSE THE ACCOUNT and get a new one that you DO
keep secret is my best advice.
