Has anyone heard of 'The Secret?' It was the subject
of one of Oprah's shows this week. If you google it
you can read a little about it and someone also told
me about this site that has the documentary to watch
for free:
moviesfoundonline.
It is really worth watching. I just finished watching
it and was going to email my friend with the site and
the only new mail in my inbox was from
childrensapraxianet
should send this.
My son was labeled at 25 months with apraxia. Until 3
1/2, I freaked, worked on it and focused on it 24-7.
Then, when he was 3 1/2, I met speech therapist whose
name just kept being brought up to me. I had resisted
trying her because she only did consulting and I KNEW
he needed a therapist that could work with him
frequently. Thinking that this constant pushing
towards her might be a sign, I went. I feared he
would never be understood by anyone and would not have
any friends without me translating (exactly what was
happening). After meeting her, I finally felt
everything would be okay. It's hard to explain, but
it was just a feeling of a weight being lifted. We
did oral motor exercises, other speech exercises and
pt therapy. Added to that, we tried Cranial Sacral
Therapy. In just ten weeks of once a week CST and all
the other work, he was understandable and hasn't had
speech therapy since right before he turned four.
Right before that, a developmental pediatrician had
even labeled him as having high functioning autism.
He is in regular preschool at 4 1/2 with lots of
friends and typically developing. He takes one nordic
natural/day.
I have always thought that it was the Cranial work
that he received, but the farther I go into this, I
believe it was the change in my focus and his ability
to then change his beliefs and energy. We are so
energetically connected to our children that what we
believe or fear for them, often becomes their reality.
My younger son was hospitalized twice last winter
for asthma. Once again I had terrible fears, etc. I
tried more CST with him, but it wasn't working like it
had with Kevin. Those same people were telling me to
try acupressure with homeopathy for allergies. I
embraced it and the Doctors of Osteopathy that did it
assured me he would be better. I believed and he is.
He doesn't use any asthma medicines and he no longer
has any symptoms of asthma or a constant runny nose.
I think these energy things probably work for many
reasons, but maybe what is most important is that I
believed good things would happen. We will only be
what we believe we will be. Is our fear and our bad
thoughts holding our children back?
Just watch or read about it. What is the worst that
could happen by changing your thoughts to good,
positive ones. Not, "He won't have Apraxia," but
instead, "He will speak clearly by this summer or
spring or whatever it is that you believe."
I wish you all happiness in your families.
