John (if you are out there) –
Pete is right on. The task is very easy, the thought of it is worse. If your hoses are firmly attached and the end in the ground is anchored (a rock, your foot etc.) all will go well. Black first – close the valve, then grey to rinse the hose – let it drip a while – close the valve – unhook the hose keeping the end up and rinse the hose into the drain hole. Rinse the hose thoroughly, stow it and rinse everything else and any drips that may have it the ground. When you take the hose off you will invariably get a few drips – just hose everything down. I carry a squirt bottle of chlorine and spray the sewer locker, let it soak a few seconds and rinse again. Chlorine is corrosive – so really rinse it well. I also carry a tube of disposable gloves – use once and toss.
In spite of all that simplicity – I do have a macerator (poop pump) because we usually empty at home after a trip – so we can use the facilities anytime we wish or on shopping trips or little mini boondocks. It is uphill to my sewer line, so conventional dumping will not work.

John . . after reading of the thousands of after-market dollars spend on solutions,
macerators, and other stuff I was thinking "Oh My God! This must be the hardest task in
the world". So with a great sense of dread and the scene of Robin Williams being hosed off
with a firehose in the movie RV fresh in my mind, we headed off to the dump station. I
hooked up the "cheap" blue hose that came with our rig, put one end in the dump station
hole (and set the rock on the cap) and pulled the blackwater lever. Woosh. Done. Then I
pulled the grey water lever certain that impending doom was upon me . . . wooosh . . .
done. Simplest thing you'll ever do. No worries!

P.S. We did add a tank rinser later . . so that involves hooking up a hose at the dump
station and letting the water run for a few minutes after the black water drains.
