Dear Mr. Obama,
Congratulations on your recent victories. I really want to see you
win, because I think that senator Clinton doesn't stand for anything.
I think that she's a big part of a Democratic party that has been
ineffective in representing the needs of the people.
Below is something that I want to share with you, as a person who
believes in the promises set forth by the United States constitution.
I think it would be great if you can incorporate this into your
campaign in some way. I think that I speak for just about everyone
who isn't rich when I describe what kind of country I want to live in.
I do think that I represent the voice of the everyday person, as well
as people who are not ashamed to call themselves "liberals."
As far as who I am, my father is from Venezuela, and my mother is from
upstate New York. After I was born in Venezuela, my parents moved to
Atlanta, where I grew up. In high school, I took a United States
government class by a teacher who was very inspiring. He got the
whole class inspired to participate in a mock senate session. I
drafted a bill which would have required women to register for the
draft. It didn't pass. But I'll never forget how he allowed me a
little extra time to finish my final exam, because he knew that if I
got 100 on my final exam, that I would make a "A" for the class. I
was the only one out of the entire class who made 100 on the final
exam. That was a great moment for me because it was the only time
that I made straight "A,"s in high school.
Right now, I'm 41 years old. I have a bachelor's degree in music, but
delivered pizzas for 17 years to give myself a shot at succeeding in
music. While I'm still not making a living in music, I now have a wife
who believes in my dream of getting my music performed around the world.
We both believe in you, Mr. Obama. You were the one highlight of the
2004 election. The fact that you got elected Senator. Ever since
then I've been watching the news every day, hoping that you would run
for president in 2008.
----------
The kind of country I want to live in
I want to live in a country that truly is a role model for the rest of
the world.
I want to live in a country where I can truly feel that I'm a part of
team when I go to work, and part of a family when I go home.
I want to live in a country where I know that my voice matters,
whether I'm at work, or whether I'm at home.
I want to live in a country where our leaders are a source of
inspiration.
I want to live in a country where I can go outside any time of the
day, and experience the smell of fresh air, and the sight of green
grass.
I want to live in a country that can appreciate the beauty of a wild
rose, and the power of a Beethoven symphony.
I want to live in a country where I know that if I fall down, someone
will be there to help me back up.
I want to live in a country where I don't have to live in a gated
community in order to feel safe.
I want to live in a country where I don't have to live in fear of
retaliation for speaking my mind.
I want to live in a country where I don't have to interrogate
strangers before I trust them.
I want to live in a country where "life, liberty, and the pursuit of
happiness," is something that anyone can obtain without being part of
a reality show.
I want to live in a country that pays more attention to acts of
courage, than it does to acts of cowardice.
I want to live in a country which encourages people not to be the
worst they can be, but the best they can be.
I want to live in a country which creates opportunities for all of its
people.
I want to live in a country which doesn't tolerate diversity, but
celebrates diversity.
I want to live in a country that celebrates the institution of
marriage without finding it necessary to exclude certain people from
participating in it.
I want to live in a country where I can see all the stars at night.
I want to live in a country whose natural beauty I can enjoy without
being arrested for trespassing.
I want to live in a country where I can stand on top of the highest
mountain, and truly believe that this really is my country, and not
some piece of private property.
